Bayside, the Delaware resort golf community being
developed by Carl M. Freeman Companies, is a place

newly installed coastal-themed playground thanks in
part to the efforts of local artists, Bayside homeowners,
and Freeman employees.

The 6,500-square-foot facility, which is part of Bayside’s
Carousel Park, shines with bright colors and whimsical art
providing the backdrop for such features as a rock
climbing wall, an osprey tower, a lighthouse, a maze, and

original artwork throughout the playground while Bayside
homeowners and Freeman employees helped with the
painting and some of the construction.

Tampa Tops Forbes' List of Best Places to Retire, But Other Cities May Surprise You

Tampabay
Tampa Bay Golf & CC, Florida: Located near Forbes' No. 1 city.

The best city for retirees is Tampa, FL, according to a survey
conducted by Forbes.com. The editors compared 100 of the
largest U.S. metropolitan areas along traditional criteria,
including availability of health care, leisure activities, plus a
number of non-traditional factors, including jobs. The result
yielded several non-traditional locations.

The 10 winners were ranked by the Forbes.com editors based
on factors including cost and availability of health care; sales,
property and income-tax rates; an index of arts and leisure
activities ranging from museums to parks to sports teams;
and cost of living, based on data from Sperling's BestPlaces.

A surprising factor that editors found was jobs for retirees.
It's not so surprising, though, when it is increasingly
becoming apparent that Boomers are not just going to quit
working cold turkey. Jobs that allow extended periods of
time off or off-site jobs that allow remote commuting will
permit Boomers to work many years past the traditional
retirement dates.

Thus, rather than a list of cities dominated by the state of
Florida, surprising locations such as Fort Worth, TX, Norfolk,
VA, and  Washington, DC, crop up as winning locations.

In our opinion, one of the best ways to enjoy these cities is
to live in a world-class golf and waterview community. See
below for a list of communities located near these top cities
for retirement living.

1. Tampa, Florida

2. Fort Worth, Texas

3. Indianapolis, Indiana

4. Atlanta, Georgia

5. Houston, Texas

6. Jacksonville, Florida

7. Phoenix, Arizona

8. Norfolk, Virginia

9. Washington, D.C.

10. Denver, Colorado

New for the New Year--Golf Course Openings, New Home Models, New Phases & More

Huntskii4354
Huntsman Springs, ID: New golf, skiing nearby.

With the advent of the new year, we have been receiving
news about communities forging ahead with plans to add
new amenities, announcing golf course openings, new
products
and new offerings. Despite what you hear about
the real estate market, these communities know that if
they are to attract new homeowners, they must stay
competitive and invest in their facilities. That's good
news for those looking for signs of a healthy and growing
community.

For example, Huntsman Springs, Driggs, Idaho, has just
released its first photos of its new golf course and its
spectacular mountain surroundings. Tampa Bay Country Club,
Florida
, just announced it has 12 new single-family home
plans to choose from, with prices ranging from $179,950 to
$300,000. And Quail Creek at The Ridges, Tennessee, has
just informed us that its single-family model home is now
complete and ready for people to come and see. Spring may
be months away, but community activity is already heating
up. Watch for next week's newsletter for the first batch of
new communities to be added to GolfCourseHome in 2008!

River Landing's New Vineyards Neighborhood Includes a Real Vineyard

Riverlanding
River Landing, NC: Great golf and now a vineyard, too.

River Landing, Wallace, NC, has unveiled plans to develop
a 10-acre vineyard within its newest neighborhood, The
Vineyards.

The Vineyards neighborhood is sited on a 300-acre tract
with a master plan that features large, one-half acre
homesites starting at $80,000, lakes and ponds, walking
paths, a recreational amenity, a winery facility and, of
course, the 10-acre vineyard which will yield several
varieties of muscadine grapes. The Vineyards and the
adjacent River Landing community are located in Duplin
County in the heart of southeastern North Carolina,
considered one of the country’s oldest grape and wine-
producing regions.

“We already have two great golf courses, a state-of-
the-art fitness center and many more first-class
amenities already in place, so we wanted to do something
different, something unique in The Vineyards that would
add value to the property,” said Kevin Hine, River
Landing
’s executive vice president and general manager.

Preparations are underway for the planting of the ten-
acre vineyard in the spring of 2008. River Landing plans
to host a special “Blessing of the Vines” weekend April
25-26, conducted with all the appropriate pomp and
circumstance by officials from the North Carolina Chapter
of The Brotherhood of the Knights of the Vine.

Depending on Mother Nature, the vineyard’s first harvest
could come in 2-3 years, and the acreage has the potential
of producing 50-80 tons of grapes. Muscadine grapes
thrive in the southeastern region’s soil conditions and
summer heat, and they have become popular among
consumers in recent years because they provide greater
amounts of antioxidants than other better known red
wine varietals.

Founded in 1996 by The Murphy Family of Duplin County,
River Landing ranks among the top-selling private golf
communities in North Carolina, according to the
community. To date, more than 1,000 families have
purchased homesites in the community along the
Northeast Cape Fear River, generating over $100 million
in sales.
