Winding River Enjoys Osprey Release, Lakewood Ranch Holds Contest, and More

Penn National, PA is close to the Appalachian Trail.

Penn National, PA residents are looking forward to the popular autumn hiking season on their continually upgraded network of foot trails that interlace the community’s natural preserves and connect up to 85,000-acre Michaux State Forest and the Appalachian Trail, adjacent to Penn National. For Penn National residents, the 18-mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail from the Pennsylvania–Maryland line to Caledonia State Park is accessible from many trail heads. Winding River, NC had member residents on hand to watch as a rehabilitated osprey was released back into the wild at Osprey Cove, Winding River’s sister LandMar community in St. Mary’s, Georgia. LandMar had responded to a request from SOS Wildlife Rehabilitation to use its acreage for the release, which requires extensive saltwater marshes and fresh water streams, a habitat the community has in abundance. Lakewood Ranch, FL will be conducting a Tour of Homes during the middle two weeks of November, during which a contest-winning video presentation will be selected from among all submitted entries. People who live, work or attend school in Lakewood Ranch have the chance to win cash or prizes in the community-wide video contest. Reynolds Plantation, GA has completed the 2008 Southern Accents Showhouse, located at the 13th tee of the community’s Creek Club. The house, on a wooded lakefront lot on Lake Oconee, opens on Sept. 18 for tours. The Showhouse joins Reynolds’ long roster of “ultimate” show homes. Its living space will open to a full- length covered porch and a separate octagonal screened porch, which face both the lake and the adjacent Creek Club golf course.
