Dataw Island Club Collects 200+ Toys at Eighth Annual Santa Claus Open Day

Dataw Island Club: Members help children of military families.

Continuing a holiday tradition of helping others, the residents of Dataw Island Club collected more than 200 toys during the eighth annual Santa Claus Open Day, held Sunday, December 13, 2009.

The toys were given to 65 children of deployed military personnel assigned to VMFA AW 533 (Hawks) and VMFA 115 (Eagles) from the U.S. Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) in Beaufort. The Santa Claus Open Day featured a toy drive for the children and Santa’s luncheon for the military families.

“We are very proud of our members who took part in the recent Santa Claus Open Day and helped to provide Christmas toys for the children of Beaufort-area armed service personnel,” said Ted Bartlett, Dataw Island general manager.

“Hosting charity outings such as this is a positive way to help the community and to assist those who are sacrificing for our freedoms.”

Carolina Country Club, SC reports that its 2009 Jack West Cup golf invitational tournament was a tremendous success. A field of 24 players was invited to play based on year-long participation in the club’s tournaments. The competition used an exciting Ryder Cup team format. Special thanks to all

The Landings on Skidaway Island, GA recently unveiled its first Designer Holiday House with a grand opening event attended by some 300 people. Attendees were able to visit and enjoy the Home, meet the designers, discuss decorating ideas, enjoy holiday cheer and generously donate. Balsam Mountain Preserve, NC's Inaugural Charity Classic golf tournament helped raise $30,000 dollars via entry fees, a silent auction and reception. The tournament benefits charitable organizations that serve Jackson County residents. Dataw Island Club, SC announced that the Club had approved major renovations to both the Cotton Dike and Morgan River courses. The club’s Cotton Dike course will close in March 2010 for the renovation project, with a planned reopening in October 2010. The Morgan River course will close in March 2011, with a targeted reopening of October 2011. The Club at Olde Stone, KY will be hosting a 5k run, 5k pump and run, 5k wheel chair race, 5k walk, and 1 mile Kids Fun Run on Saturday, June 27th. Dataw Island, SC announced the appointment of Jason Cochran as assistant golf professional. In this role, Cochran will assist in the management of golf shop operations and organize teaching programs that promote golf groups. He will also help supervise and direct the Dataw Island golf staff. A graduate of the San Diego Golf Academy, Cochran is a 10-year U.S. Army veteran and a certified instructor for the Army Space Program. He was honorably discharged in 2003. Georgia Club's annual Christmas Tour of Homes was a big success for the Statham, Georgia community, raising nearly $23,000--a great feat given the cold weather and current economic conditions. Lake Jovita, FL held a successful "Deck the Halls" holiday home tour on Dec. 8, with all proceeds directed to three charities that were pre-selected by the community Women's Club. The home tours were just the first part of a full day's festivities, including "high tea" refreshments. More than 60 Lake Jovita resident members have participated in the event as volunteers. The Cliffs Communities, SC recently updated construction progress on the Gary Player-designed Mountain Park Golf Course. The Cliffs' seventh championship private course, it is the centerpiece of the new Cliffs at Mountain Park community. Nine of its 18 holes have been shaped and three of the nine are grassed. In August, Forest Dunes in Roscommon, Michigan will host "Art de Vin–A Celebration of Michigan Art, Wines, Hops and Harvest." Enchante Art Gallery will co-host.

The August 9th patio event will feature Michigan-based artists, breweries, vineyards, distillers, coffee roasters and non-alcoholic beverage producers. More than a dozen Michigan artists will showcase their work, some of which is wine-themed.
