The Food and Wine Festival at National Harbor, MD. takes place this weekend, May 17 and 18. If you've never heard of National Harbor, it is the largest multi-use project on the East Coast, with 300-acres of land sloping down to 1-1/4 miles of spectacular Potomac River waterfront. It also includes 7.3 million square feet of offices, hotels, restaurants, retail stores, condominiums, a full-service marina, a convention center, and more than 10,000 parking spaces.
The site is located in Prince George's County, Maryland on the Potomac River, and is just minutes from Washington, D.C. National Harbor is accessible from I-95/I-495, I-295, the new Woodrow Wilson Bridge, and by water taxi from Washington, D.C., and historic Alexandria, Virginia. Touted as "the new gateway to the National Capital Region," this burgeoning urban-waterfront community offers stunning views of downtown Washington, D.C. and Old Town Alexandria, and is just a 15-minute drive - or water taxi ride - to the heart of the nation's capital.
Charles Street Gourmet
We mention this event because of a friend of our GolfCourseHomeStyle.net website and its partner site ItalianMonogrammedCeramics will be exhibiting there. Susan Boros, the owner of Charles Street Gourmet, will be featuring her fabulous chutney. If you go, her booth is a must-see. She will be at the Artisanal Products and Boutique Wines Pavilion.
What's At the Festival
A Main Tasting Pavilion will divide food and wine by continent. Many world regions will be represented, providing a wide assortment of styles, but all festival participants share one philosophy - a personal dedication to their artistry and a loyalty to local, fresh, in-season, and responsibly sourced ingredients.
In addition, the festival will feature an Artisanal Products and Boutique Wines Pavilion, Lost Culinary Arts Pavilion (aging, smoking, pickling, etc.), and Our Culinary Future Pavilion, which will include educational information about sustainable food production, preserving culinary traditions, and valuing food quality and variety.
FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS
The Artisanal Products and Boutique Wines Pavilion
This pavilion is dedicated to the growing trend of handcrafted artisanal products, which are made with great care and attention to detail, such as premium sea salt, cheese, bread, chocolate, coffee, teas, beer, olive oils, ice cream, etc. Boutique Wines will feature vineyards making fewer than 5,000 cases per year and specialty wines from larger vineyards made in limited quantity. These exclusive wines present a particular passion by the winemaker.
Seminars and Guest Chef Demonstrations
A varied selection of informative and entertaining educational sessions will be offered to both the consumer and trade professional. Accomplished chefs and wine experts will host demonstrations, tastings, and share signature dishes and techniques.
