It's March and daffodils are pushing up out of the ground giving hope that warm, dry weather may once again return. It's been a tough winter both weather-wise and economy-wise. So I couldn't help trying to give the warmer weather a push by posting some sailing shots from last summer's Holmes Hole races in Vineyard Haven, Martha's Vineyard.
The harbor here is perfect for racing. Like clockwork, Southwest winds pick up in the afternoon around 2 to give you a good run. Although they can disappear late, leaving boats hanging like wet laundry in the face of an opposing current and within agonizing reach of a mark they'll never round.
Look below for some of the boats that regularly race, or are just seen around the harbor, like the Black Dog's Alabama or Gannon & Benjamin's stunning Charlotte.
