Amity Island 5K and Fun Run

(formerly known as the Vineyard Scoops 5k Tour of Edgartown)

Two of last year's Fun Run contestants finished in an exciting tie.

Bring the whole family out for an active Sunday with the Amity Island 5K and Fun Run! People of all ages are welcome to run or walk this event sponsored by the Amity Island Running Club.

This scenic course starts at the Farm Institute at Katama Farm and continues along Edgartown Bay road, past South Beach and back along the bike path to the finish line at the Farm Institute. Also, the first 300 people to arrive on race day will receive a free t-shirt!

When: Sunday, August 6 (5K Run/Walk: 9:00 am & 1/2K Fun Run: 8:45 am)

*Registration and number pick up on race morning: 7:00 – 8:45 am

MV Featured Event - The 39th Possible Dreams Auction

The 39th Possible Dreams Auction

The Auction takes place under a tent on the lawn at the Winnetu Oceanside Resort.

The 39th Annual Possible Dreams Auction will support the work of Martha’s Vineyard Community Services (MVCS); work that strengthens and improves the lives of more than 6,000 Island neighbors each year. Since 1961, MVCS has met the Island’s human service needs through their six core programs.

When: Sunday, July 30th from 3:30-7:30 pm

Registration: $25

One-of-a-kind, ‘Dream” opportunities are donated for live auction, silent auction, super silent auction, and raffle by celebrities with a personal connection to Martha’s Vineyard.

Seth Meyers makes a notable contribution this year with a donation of VIP tickets to a taping of Late Night and a personal meet and greet. Many Island businesses and residents have also donated generous Dreams, like a party for 50 at the Ritz with Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish or a sail on a Black Dog tall ship. 

One of the more memorable Dreams was when a young boy won the opportunity to sit in as copilot in Christopher Reeve’s twin engine plane.

This Weekend on the Vineyard - The Vineyard Sound Concert

The Vineyard Sound, an all-male a capella group, is an important part of the Island community.

Friday - July 21st

1. Enter the Oak Bluffs Bluewater Fishing Classic to experience some of the best big game fishing in the world. Registration for this weekend’s event includes an overnight adventure which allows competitors to fish for two straight days.
2. Shop the Annual Book Sale, sponsored by the Library Friends of Oak Bluffs, this weekend from 10-4 at the Oak Bluffs Public Library. People of all ages will find gently used books at bargain prices.
3. Attend The Vineyard Sound concert to enjoy stellar vocals, award-winning arrangements, and a diverse repertoire that has become a summer tradition on the Island. See this all-male a capella group perform at the Trinity Worship Center at 8 pm.

Saturday - July 22nd

1. Sail in the 80th annual ‘Round-the-Island-Race hosted by the Edgartown Yacht Club! Sailboats of all sizes race 55 nautical miles in this fun and competitive event. If you’re not a sailor, try to catch a glimpse of the boats from land as they sail around the island.
2. Start your Saturday off right with Goat Yoga at the Native Earth Teaching Farm. This 10 am class is perfect for animal lovers and is open to all experience levels. Registration is required in advance.
3. Bring your appetite to the annual Blueberry Festival at the First Congregational Church of West Tisbury. Free food and refreshments featuring fresh blueberries will be served from 12-4 pm on the front lawn.

Sunday - July 23rd

1. Celebrate the talented artisans of the Island at the Vineyard Artisans Summer Festival. Buy directly from more than 70 artists or simply enjoy demonstrations of their craft from 10am-2pm in Grange Hall.
2. Bring a group of friends to the Day Drinker’s Brunch at the Ritz Soulkitchen. Enjoy a relaxing Sunday with great food, drinks and the music of Griff the Piano Man.
3. Pick up some locally-grown produce for your Sunday dinner from the Island Grown Initiative’s Mobile Market. Their fresh produce will be available at Wampanoag Tribe in Aquinnah beginning at 5:45 pm.

Friday - July 14th

1. Explore the beach with your kids at a Pondside Adventure. Hosted by the Long Point Wildlife Rescue, this event runs from 11 am-12 pm. A Trustees educator will allow kids ages 5+ to do seaside crafts, and go on scavenger hunts and snorkeling adventures.
2. Discover your creative side through paintings, photography, and sculptures at the Martha’s Vineyard Midsummer Fine Art Fair from Friday-Saturday. Stop by this annual event at the Tashmoo Spring Building anytime this weekend to support the Island Fund for the Arts at The Permanent Endowment for Martha's Vineyard.
3. Bring your appetites to Grace Church for their coveted Lobster Rolls from 4-7 pm. If you’re not a fan of seafood, they also offer hot dogs and pie!

Saturday - July 15th

1. Start your Saturday off right at the West Tisbury Farmer’s Market with food, friends, and music. Sample local produce, meats, and products from all over the island at 9 am-12 pm at Grange Hall.
2. Head over to the West Tisbury Public Library for a Book Talk with Peter Simon at 4 pm. Peter Simon is discussing his new book: Martha’s Vineyard To Everything There Is a Season. Books will be available for purchase and signing and there will be free refreshments.
3. Join the FARM Institute at a silent auction, Meals in the Meadow, to benefit farm-based education programs from 5-10 pm. Support a great cause and enjoy a buffet dinner catered by Scottish Bakehouse, featuring FARM Institute meat and Island produce. Dance to the music of the Sultans of Swing after sampling cocktails and hors d'oeuvres highlighting local fare.

Sunday - July 16th

1. Explore the island in a new way from 10-11 am with the Arboretum Guided Tour. A guide will teach you about the people, history, and nature that make the Polly Hill Arboretum so unique.
2. Come out to the Portuguese-American Club to celebrate the Portuguese Holy Ghost Feast & Festival with a parade at 11 am! The community comes together to celebrate this holiday with traditional dancing, food, and games.
3. End the weekend on the right note with a 5 pm concert from the award-winning operatic tenor, Kyle Van Schoonhoven, at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church.

Friday - July 7th

1. Learn about the history, plants and people that make Poly Hill Arboretum such a magical place. Take a guided tour at 10am to explore this special place that recognizes and showcases some of the most beautiful plants you'll find on the Island.

2. Join Sail MV post race as they host the Vineyard Cup on the lawn at the MV Museum in Vineyard Haven at 4pm. Food and drink provided with music featuring The Phil DaRosa Project with special guest Sophie Hiller.

3. Let your hair down and stop into The Port Hunter on Main Street in Edgartown for live music and dancing. Enjoy some libations while you dance the night away with Roosevelt Dime. 

 

Saturday - July 8th

1. Gaze at the flowers and trees in the open air studio during Yoga at the Yard. The class begins at 8am.

2. The West Tisbury Public Library is hosting an art reception for Nancy Purnell whose paintings will be on display from 3-5pm. This exhibit features 15 oil paintings of Martha's Vineyard landscapes.

3. The Tisbury Street Fair is here folks - grab the family and stroll down Main Street in Vineyard Haven between 6:30-9:30pm. Enjoy an array of delicious food including the famous strawberry shortcake provided by the Fire Dept. or the coveted Grace Church lobster roll.

 

Sunday - July 9th

1. The Vineyard Artisans Summer Festival is an annual tradition where the public can meet more than 70 artists each week. It is the Island's only juried art show. Come by Grange Hall in West Tisbury at 10am to view many demonstrations and buy work directly form the artists.

2. Offshore Ale Company hosts a tour of it's brewery and restaurant at 2pm.

3. Pay tribute to the Island's Luke Gurney who passed away last year by attending the Fluke for Luke Fishing Tournament. The event will give participants, sponsors, and volunteers the opportunity to support the Gurney family and celebrate Luke's life. Fishing runs from Saturday to Sunday with an Awards ceremony at 5pm on Sunday at the PA Club.

The sun's coming out over Oak Bluffs! Head there on Sunday for some shopping at the Open Market.

Music, movies, flowers, and strawberries galore! This weekend’s all about festivals on the Vineyard, and we’ve picked out a few of our top picks.

Friday June 23^rd

1. Dress in your dingiest duds and take the kids down to the Vineyard Haven Public Library from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm for the Tie-Dye Battle! You’ll be armed with white shirts and water pistols and leave wearing a work of art.
   
   
2. The MV Film Society’s FILMUSIC Festival is happening all weekend, but the Friday lineup features some of our most anticipated flicks. Come at 4:00 pm to see “Deconstructing The Beatles: Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.” Double back at 9:00 pm for “I Called Him Morgan,” an intriguing doc exploring the music and murder of jazz musician Lee Morgan.
   
   
3. Attend a garden party with a good cause at The Field Gallery from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Auctions for unique garden items will benefit the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod and the Islands.

Saturday June 24^th

1. Kick off your day at the Annual Strawberry Festival at Morning Glory Farm. From 11:00 am to 2:00 pm indulge in strawberry treats and fresh berries while the kids play games, go on a hayride, and even get in a royal meet and greet with the Strawberry Princess.
   
   
2. Not berried-out yet? The 29^th Annual Strawberry Festival runs from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the First Congregational Church of West Tisbury. Shortcake, ice cream, and a litany of other treats will be available.
   
   
3. Keep the feasting going with a Sunset Paddle and Paella Cookout at Lobsterville Beach From 5:00 to 9:00 pm, join Aloha Paddle for an water adventure followed by an authentic Spanish meal on the beach.

Sunday June 25^th

1. Pick up breakfast at the Oak Bluffs Open Market, running from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Peruse food, art, vintage wares, or even get a massage at Washington Park.
   
   
2. Take an afternoon stroll through the Old Mill during the Blooming Art show from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Art and floral arrangements will be on display at the Martha’s Vineyard Garden Club’s annual fundraiser, which will run Thursday through Saturday as well.
   
   
3. Head to the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center at 5:30 pm for a dose of culture at their event, Celebrating Ethiopia’s Awra Amba, to raise money for a water delivery system. Taste Ethiopian cuisine and enjoy a performance from jazz singer Munit Mesfin.
