NGA Pro Golf Tour's Savannah Lakes Village Classic to Return in April 2012

Savannah Lakes Village, SC: NGA Pro Golf Tour returns in 2012.

Savannah Lakes Village & Golf Club in McCormick, SC, has announced that The National Golf Association (NGA) Pro Golf Tour will return to the club on April 23 - 29, 2012 for the Savannah Lakes Village Classic.

The annual tournament has not only has provided major contributions to local charities, but it has also proven to be a significant and memorable stepping-stone for many aspiring professional golfers. Request more information.

Recent success stories include Ted Potter, Russell Knox, Will Wilcox (past winner), Matt Hendrix, Josh Broadaway, Will Claxton, & Casey Wittenberg who have moved up to The Nationwide Tour.

Additionally Eric Onesi & Zack Sucher have attained conditional status. Both Ted Potter and Russell Knox appear to be in a prime position to move on to the PGA Tour in 2012 because of how high up they are ranked on this year's Nationwide Tour. Philip Pettitt (2011 winner) recently made it through the first stage of The European PGA Tour qualification school.

Plan to visit the area April 23 – 29, 2012 for some great professional golf on Lake Thurmond at the Savannah Lakes Village Monticello Golf Club. This will be the 10th year that Savannah Lakes Village has hosted the Pro Golf Tour.  As always, tournament admission is free.

In addition Tigers' head basketball coach Brad Brownell is a participant in the pro-am portion of the event. The Clemson campus is located 35 miles from Greenville, S.C.

Javier Colon returns this week to the scene of his ace at the BMW Charity event.

Twenty-three celebrities, including Javier Colon who scored an ace on the first day of competition last year on the 12th hole at the Carolina Country Club, will compete in the 2011 BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation.

The event, as in past years, is held at three different venues,  Thornblade Club, The Carolina Country Club and Bright's Creek Golf Club. The event starts on Thursday, May 19 and runs through Sunday May 22.

Scotch Hall Preserve Readies for NGA & Hooters Tour Inaugural Avoca Classic

Scotch Hall Preserve in Merry Hill, NC, is getting ready for the inaugural Avoca Classic, a bright new event on the he National Golf Association (NGA)/Hooters Professional Golf Tour.  Running the week of May 23rd through May 29th, the competitive phase of the event will begin Thursday, May 26th.

Scotch Hall Preserve provides an attractive backdrop to the event, sitting on a 900-acre cape bounded by the Albemarle Sound. A master-planned, upscale enclave for second-home and pre-retirement buyers, the community’s private golf course was named by Golf Digest as the No. 9 'Best New Private Course' in the U.S. in 2009. A Full Tournament Week
A week full of activities begins with the Monday Qualifier which will offer aspiring professionals the opportunity to play their way into the tournament.

Tuesday will feature the Tommy Davis Nationwide Insurance Shootout that will have 10 two-person teams, each comprised of a Hooters Tour Professional and an amateur in a fun 9-hole event where one team is eliminated after each hole until there is only one team standing.

Also, on Tuesday afternoon, Tour Professionals will hold a Free Junior Clinic.

On Wednesday afternoon the Pro-Am will tee off with a 1 pm shotgun start. Teams of three amateurs will be paired with the Tour’s top-performing professionals in a scramble format. Come early and you can watch some of the biggest hitters compete in the Long Drive Contest.

Thursday through Sunday a field size of 168 golfers will contest 72 holes of professional golf beginning at 7:30 every morning. The public is invited, and admission is free. After two rounds the field will be cut to the low 65 and ties.

Many of these players will eventually be stars on the Nationwide and PGA Tours in the near future, so the Avoca Classic at Scotch Hall Preserve is a great opportunity to see these players on their way up. The NGA/Hooters Tour is the nation’s 3rd largest 72-hole, walking men’s tour behind only the Nationwide and PGA Tours. NGA/Hooters Tour alumni includes the winners of 12 major championships, so expect to see great golf.

Watch Future PGA Tour Stars at Daniel Island's Nationwide Tour Championship

Come to the Nationwide Tour Championship at Daniel Island, Charleston, SC, next month and you'll be watching the next generation of stars on the PGA Tour. You can look it up.

The Top 4 players in the FedEx Cup standings heading into this weekend’s BMW Championship are former Nationwide Tour players, and three of which directly ascended to the PGA TOUR via a year-end Top 25 finish on the Nationwide Tour. 

Current No. 1 Matt Kuchar (2006) leads “The 25” graduates, followed by No. 2 Charley Hoffman (2005), and No. 4 Jason Day (2007), with No. 3 Steve Stricker having made the transition via sponsor exemption success in 2006.

In addition, nine of the 12 members of the 2010 Ryder Cup Team are former Nationwide Tour Players.  The Nationwide Tour Championship at Daniel Island, scheduled October 25-31, 2010, is the  Nationwide Tour’s season-ending event where the top 60 money winners compete for 25 PGA TOUR cards and a spot on the 2011 PGA Tour.

Another impressive statistic includes the fact that 84 of 125 players (67.2%) who qualified for the 2010 PGA Tour Playoffs previously played on the Nationwide Tour.  At this point, 47 of 70 players remaining in contention (67.1%) in the PGA Tour Playoffs previously played on the Nationwide Tour.

Savannah Lakes Village to Host in April NGA/Hooters Tour Event for Aspiring Pros

The National Golf Association’s Hooters Professional Golf Tour, presented by Hooters of America and Naturally Fresh Foods, returns to Savannah Lakes Village April 26-May 2 for The 2010 Savannah Lakes Village Classic, 2010 presented by McCormick County. Request more information.

A portion of the proceeds from The 2010 Savannah Lakes Village Classic will go to benefit The Ed Meyer First Responders.

The 2010 Savannah Lakes Village Classic will be the second major tournament of the season with a purse of $250,000 with an estimated $40,000 going to the winner.

The Savannah Lakes Village Shootout will be Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 1:30.  The shootout is an alternate shot format in which a professional is paired with an amateur and one team is eliminated each hole until one team remains and on Wednesday April 28th there will be pro-am sponsored by Lakeland’s Orthopaedic that gives amateurs the chance to play with the future stars of the PGA TOUR.

The NGA/Hooters Tour is the third largest men’s 72-hole professional golf tour in the U.S. behind the PGA and Nationwide Tours. All told, the NGA/Hooters Tour’s alumni have an impressive 11 majors to their credit.

The NGA/Hooters Tour has helped more than 100 professionals acquire their PGA, Senior PGA, and Nationwide Tour cards. In fact, 48% of the players that earned their 2010 PGA Tour card, and 53% of the players that earned full exempt status on the Nationwide Tour started their careers on the NGA/Hooters Tour. The Nationwide Tour Championship at Daniel Island announces the implementation of the TICKETS Fore CHARITY™ ticket sales fund-raising program, which provides an opportunity for non-profit 501c3 organizations to sell tickets to this major event and keep 100 percent of the proceeds.

Charities interested in participating are invited attend an introductory TICKETS Fore CHARITY™ presentation to be held at the Daniel Island Club on Thursday, May 28th. 

The Nationwide Tour Championship at Daniel Island, offering a $1 million purse as it concludes season-long competition to identify the 25 players who earn PGA TOUR cards for the following season based on the Tour’s final money list, is scheduled October 22 - 25, 2009, at the Daniel Island Club in Charleston, SC.

All 501c3 non-profit organizations are invited to learn more about the program and register to participate by attending an introductory TICKETS Fore CHARITY™ presentation at the Daniel Island Club from 5:30-7:00pm, on Thursday, May 28th. More than 60,000 spectators are expected to attend this week’s Michelob Ultra Open at Kingsmill, an LPGA Tour golf event. For some, it’s a shorter trip than others, says the Williamstown Yorktown Daily.

All around Kingsmill’s River Course, homeowners lucky enough to have a deck overlooking the course are throwing impromptu parties this weekend.

Amy Storck moved into her townhouse adjacent to the River Course’s sixth green a few years ago. Proximity to the golf course was “definitely a factor” why she and husband Greg purchased there.

Now every year, their place is party central during weekend rounds at the Michelob. At least for her friends who arrive in time.

“I told them. I said ‘Show up early if you want to see the big names,’” Storck laughed, as she waited for friends to arrive from as far away as Maryland.

“This is very high up among my favorite weekends of the year. It’s great to see the players, and see our friends too. If they get here!”

Dennis Quaid & Greg Kinnear Top Celebs Returning to Carolina C.C. BMW Event

Dennis Quaid, Greg Kinnear and Catherine Bell head the cast of celebrities returning to the BMW Charity Pro-Am tournament at the Carolina Country Club. The event will be held May14-17th.

Club members and staff are gearing up for their hosting duties for the event that made its debut here last year. The tournament is expected to raise money for more than 125 charities in the Upstate. Celebrities and pros will play at Carolina in Spartanburg on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday.

The BMW Charity Pro-Am tournament is the only tournament that celebrities are grouped with Nationwide PGA  Professionals for a four-day, better-ball tournament.

Other returning celebs include David James Elliott and Wayne Gretzky. Playing for the first time are Terry O. Quinn, Paula Trickey, Joe Don Rooney, Joe Mantegna and Dabo Swinney.
